The GTD Zeitgeist

Merlin Mann nails it: “any idea that helps you to become more self-aware can usually help you to reach a goal or affect a favorable solution“. I am a proponent of self-awareness, although still a novice practitioner.

If I hadn’t already sold Chris on it, I imagine this would do the trick.

    Geof,

My filing drawer of my desk at work has 43 folders in it. Deduce from that what you will.

    Good deal, Chris. Good deal.

I don’t know about you, but with those 43 folders, I am forever leaving myself notes for tomorrow [do this when you get in first thing] and notes for the end of the week [you worked 39 hours last pay period, you need 41 this week for full pay].

    Baby steps, man.

  3. Chris (from L.C.) Says:

    Yep.

At the end of the week (Friday) I make a ‘to-do’ list for the next week for things that are regular occurances, but not always the same day of the week (certain reports due on the 15th, 31st, 26th, etc), plus things I would like to get done (spend an hour moving files and such into my new office). I do it in Notepad on a continuous sheet, and just print the sheet out and clip the 5 different lists to the date they correspond to. It’s not a huge list of concrete absolutes, but helps keep my day on track as much as possible (which is not very possible with my job).

    Good times, really.
