Email Signatures: Privacy and Consent

Ross Mayfield cranked up the idea, and Tim O’Reilly picked up on it: adding a privacy checklist to email signatures.

This email is: [ ] bloggable [x] ask first [ ] private

I’m generally of the opinion that anything I send you is fair game, but I’ve had a couple conversations in the last day or so that I’d like to remain private, at least for the time being. [Hi, Kari!] A standardized way to do this would rule … but in the meantime, I like the concept, and I think it’s time for me to tweak my email signature anyway. [If for no other reason than the fact that it's not clear that my cell number obviates any home number for me.]

[That said, I never mind when people ask first if they may quote me. You too, Noah.]
